Service
As a deacon, serving is not something you do, it is something you are. My service ministry focuses on family, the ministry I chose in the Ministry Formation program year ago. For over 15 years I have been fortunate to teach religious education to children in 7th and 8th grade as well as prepare them for Confirmation. I have prepared numerous parents and godparents for Baptism as well as couples preparing for marriage. My ministry extended to sports, scouting, youth retreats and altar server training.
I have been blessed in my professional life to be able to work with the homeless; something a deacon cannot always do. While quite rewarding the agency I worked with had new leaders that did not always align with the mission and ministry and looked only to personal advancement that effectively ended my professional/ministry with the homeless.
